Three things to think about when choosing the right gas for your small engines.

Most of us would think choosing gas for small engines is a no-brainer. Some would say just use the same gas you use in your car. But that is not necessarily true. Today’s small engines can be contaminated by chemicals especially ethanol that is in today’s gasoline.

So here are the three things you need to consider when choosing your gas.

What type of equipment am I putting gas in. If it is a weedeater or chainsaw I highly recommend using non-ethanol gas. Non-ethanol gas will destroy the inside of fuel lines, causing debris to flow into your carburetor’s jets clogging them, and causing your equipment not to run or run in an unacceptable way. Also, the rubber gaskets and diet frames that are in chainsaws and weedeaters are damaged by the ethanol concentration. If you were putting fuel into a lawnmower or lawn tractor it would be suitable to use regular gasoline with ethanol. These types of machines seem to not be quite as affected as the smaller engine. On another note; ethanol fuel breaks down much faster than non-ethanol fuel and also isn’t attracted from moisture inside the tank which will also cause hard starting and erratic running of your small engine. Most notably in the chainsaw and weedeater engine sizes.
